Hangtown Red Lot #40 redux

Back to an old favorite tonite - Hangtown Red from the Boeger Winery.

A great blend of Pinot Noir, Barbera, Zinfandel, Cab and Merlot that will go perfectly with the
grilled center cut Pork Chops and grilled half potatoes.

I've had the boiled taters and Chops marinating overnight in the following concoction:

Unfiltered Apple Juice - Love the Trader Joes stuff
Sweet Hot Stone Ground Mustard - I like the Beaver brand
Fresh Rosemary
Salt
Pepper
Sage
Cider Vinegar

Threw all that in a blender and let it slowly soak into the chops and potatoes.
Can't wait to put some nice grill marks on the grub and have a glass of the Red with it.

Cheers!

Ebay Rock 45's (8/19/11)

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently along with the corresponding video - so you can judge for yourself if the buyer got a good deal.

The Nothing Scream N' Cry $2000.00

From the Auction :

Trixz Sly and the Nothing; rare 1979 45" single, in very good condition. Played very little. Cover art by Jon Rosen. Seller was friends with the band, and the drummer, Mickey Crash, was concurrently her drummer in the band Disturbed Furniture.

Teenage Head Picture My Face $402.00

From the Auction:

Here we have a 7" by '70s punkers TEENAGE HEAD, on Epic (E4-8273). This 7" is fairly rare and all, but the sleeve is where the rarity REALLY comes in: CBS wouldn't shell out for a picture sleeve, so the band printed approximately 100 pic sleeves for copies of the 7" sold at gigs. There is a different sleeve with a similar layout on German pressings of this record, but don't be fooled: THIS is the real deal! The vinyl is a lovely NM; the sleeve isn't in perfect shape (there's some shelf wear, plus some coffee-colored stains likely from the adhesive, or possibly some Guinness; speaking of the adhesive, it doesn't really work anymore)., but aside from the worn-out glue, I'd venture a strong VG, if not VG+.

Gene Vincent Dance To The Bop $355.12

From the Auction:

This OZ. issue of GENE VINCENT>>DANCE TO THE BOP- EP has covers that show some VERY light & careful usage both front & back

The Lewd Kill Yourself $185.43

From the Auction:

the Lewd
KILL YOURSELF 2:02
b/w
Trash Can Baby 2:10
and
PAY OR DIE 1:47
on SCRATCHED Records SCRATCH-ME-101

Blondie Sunday Girl $19.99

From the Auction:

Very nice copy of this hard to find Swedish 7" single. Sunday girl b/w I know but I don't know

2009 Layer Cake Malbec

Opened up a bottle of the latest vintage of Layer Cake Malbec this evening. It's going really well with the grilled lamb chops and the Pretenders pumping out of the Jukebox. Loved the 2008 version

Here's some propoganda on the wine (Layer Cake Malbec Website), which I would highly recommend if you are a Malbec lover like me. Hey - they even have a Facebook Page...

Cheers

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently along with the corresponding video - so you can judge for yourself if the buyer got a good deal.

Chuck Berry Too Much Monkey Business $229.50

From the Auction:

CHUCK BERRY, "Head Over Heals", original pressing EP, 45rpm record on Chess EP-5118 .. Labels and vinyl are M-, cover is VG or better with a seam split on the top seam and aging discoloration on the back cover (it's not that bad) . This is a rare one and the vinyl appears unplayed...shinny and new. Songs include School Day, Wee Wee Hours, Too Much Monkey Business, and Brown Eyed Handsome Man.

Flesheaters Disintegration Nation $124.75

From the Auction:

Flesheaters self titled debut single.side one , disintegration nation & agony shorthand b/w radio dies screaming & twisted road on upsetter records.

Operation Ivy Hectic $124.50

From the Auction:

OPERATION IVY - HECTIC 7" - TEST PRESSING / RADIO PROMO - Lookout Records LK 03 - 1988

Like the other Lookout Records 7"s I had up here recently, this is one of the (likely four) original test pressing copies pressed of this 7", given to the Berkeley college radio station as a temporary advance promo before the real copies became available.

Local labels would sometimes give test pressings to local stations as advance promos once they were done "testing" them, and this was the one Lookout gave to KALX in Berkeley, back when I used to work there. When the official record was released, the station would discard the advance and replace it with the real copy. I used to rescue these from the trash from time to time.

The original copy at the station was in a plain paper sleeve with a photocopied piece of paper with a track listing and a little blurb/press release about the music of the islands taped to it, and the band name and record title written on it in (I believeI David Hayes's handwriting. The labels were similarly written-on, as you can see. Afterwards, Larry gave me a cover and all the artwork, including the stapled insert booklet.

As with the others, this is how I know for sure this was from those initial first test pressings and not some later test from any subsequent pressings of the same record. This was 1988, for sure,
the first time anyone ever heard this.
Like I say, I'm pretty sure this would have been one of four, as that was the usual number. I forgot I had these till I was clearing out a closet recently and came across them in a stack of other forgotten 7"s. So this is a unique item, and the rarest copy of this record you're likely to find anywhere.

Nuns Savage $108.50

From the Auction:

Here's a Near Mint/Mint copy of The Nuns' SAVAGE / DECADENT JEW/SUICIDE CHILD EP on 415 Records ). The picture sleeve and disc are both in beautiful condition and this looks unplayed. This band of course featured Jennifer Miro and Alejandro Escovedo. From the collection of a DJ and music writer.

Pretenders Cuban Slide $9.99

From the Auction:

From 1980 on Real records, Japan (SFL-2506.)
Sleeve is two sided 7"x7" page with Japanese/ English lyrics on other side.

Tracks:
Cuban Slide - 4:31
Stop Your Sobbing (Kinks cover) - 2:38

2010 La Loggia Barbera d' Alba

Working on the playlist for tomorrows show about Vacations and it reminded my of a time a few years ago when my wife and I were lucky enough to find ourselves in Northern Italy. Went out to find an example of a wine from that area and my local Trader Joe's has this nice example on it's shelves for about $7. It's a La Loggia Barbera d' Alba. Very true to the Barbera varietal - spiciness due to the acidity, but with some great dark red fruit (cherry and plum). It went very well with some thick cut pork chops that I finished off with my favorite store bought BBQ sauce - Organicville Original. Great stuff if you don't have the time to make some homemade sauce. I didn't this week - yes, my daughters are still swimming.....
