2008 Gott Mohr-Fry Zinfandel

Getting ready for the Memorial Day holiday with some tasty Zin tonight. The bottle of choice is a 2008 Gott Mohr-Fry Zinfandel and it is gonna go great with the Rib-Eye steaks that I am grillin' this evening. I'll be pairing them with a nice creamy Parmesan Risotto and a sauteed mushrooms and onion mixture. Can't wait to get grilling!

Here's some propoganda on the wine -

The Mohr-Fry Ranches are located in Lodi between the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento River Delta. The farming history of the Mohr-Fry Ranches dates back to the 1850s but it wasn't until the early 1900s that they began to plant grapevines. Today, the Ranches produce grapes, cherries and heirloom beans. The grapes are farmed according to Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing - practices include using cover crops to improve soil quality, leaf pulling to prevent bunch rot and owl boxes to alleviate gopher problems. Farming practices like these and limited yields from 60-85 year-old vines produce a concentrated wine with aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon, cedar and black pepper with flavors of blackberry, red cherries and dark plum. Since our inception in 1996 we've endeavored to work with those who love farming grapes as much as we enjoy creating wine. It's for this reason that we develop relationships with farming families like the Frys who deeply care about the land they farm.

A Beautiful Sunday afternoon out here on the Left Coast. Got a bottle of French Red open tonight, ready to go with some pasta topped with an Artichoke Marinara sauce. Grilled some Asparagas, Zuchini and Eggplant as well.

The wine is from the Jean d'Aosque winery in Southeast France (from the Languedoc Roussillion region) on the the coast of the Mediteranean. Inky purple with a firm nose and a silky finish, you can find this one at Trader Joes for around $7.

Cheers!

Boeger Hangtown Red #40

Yes, I went back for more! Love this blend and at about $7, ya can't beat the price. It's called Hangtown Red lot # 40. I had some of the previous lot #39 a few months back and loved that one too. It should go well with the Chicken Stew that I've got bubbling up on the stove on this cold and rainy Sunday in May out here in Red Red Wine On A Sundayland.

Spent the weekend out at the Pin-A-Go-Go playing my favorite games. Boy are my wrists sore!

2009 Les Portes De Bordeaux

Putting together the playlist for tomorrow nights show and opened a bottle that I picked up this week at good ole' Trader Joes. At $4.99, this one is a steal. Nice full-bodied red with some cherry and the robust minerality that I am learning to love from a good Bordeaux. Couldn't find much on the wine on the web. No description at all on the bottle. Maybe that's why TJ's got such a good deal. This winery needs to hire a publicist!

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday afternoon. It is warming up in Red Red Wine On A Sundayland. Spent most of the weekend out in the backyard and in the garage. Simple Pleasures....
