2008 Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel

Sticking close to home tonight with another great wine from the folks over at Bogle Vineyards in the little town called Clarksburg. The 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel is going great with the homemade Turkey soup and some fresh French Bread.

Picked up the new Gaslight Anthem 7" on Black Friday, along with a new 7" from Tom Petty which has 2 outtakes from the Damn the Torpedoes sessions. Now Damn the Torpedoes is one of my all time favorite albums, so I was thrilled to get these songs on the Juke. They sound great alongside the other 7"s from that album:

Don't Do Me Like That" b/w "Casa Dega
Don't Do Me Like That" b/w "Century City UK 7"
Something Else" (Live) b/w "Stories We Could Tell" (Live) UK 7"
Refugee b/w/ It's Raining Again
Here Comes My Girl b/w Louisiana Rain

Here's the Wine Propoganda from the Website.

WINEMAKER NOTES

Head-trained and dry farmed vines continue to be the source for Bogle’s Old Vine Zinfandel. These gnarly old vines produce concentrated fruit of unsurpassed quality and intensity. This full-bodied vintage shows itself with rich black raspberry notes that round out in the mouth, accompanied by the scents of summer fruit jam bubbling on the stove. Juniper berry and cinnamon stick join the spiciness of red and black peppercorns as they integrate with the supple fruit and lead toward the finish. Toasty oak and cloves are the perfect finishing touch.

SERVED BEST WITH

This is the perfect wine to pair with everything from rich and unique dishes, to your favorite barbeque or weeknight take out! Enjoy!

Ebay Rock 45's (11/26/10)

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently.
Here's the list for Friday, the 26th of November, 2010

Eddie Cochran Singin To My Baby Part 3 $960.00

From the Auction:
Part Three, Singin' To My Baby, Eddie Cochran Liberty LEP-3-3061. Side one: One Kiss and Cradle Baby. Side Two: I'm Alone Because I Love You and Lovin' Time. Cover grades VG+, bottom split about 1 1/2 inches. Record grades VG+ has uniform slight dish warp. Tracks fine, its not off center. Plays M-.

The Trend Electric Chair $430.77

From the Walrus website:
The Trend were a three-piece power-pop group from Syracuse, NY. Much like The Undertones, Gary Valentine, and The Ramones before them – this band of punk rock pranksters didn’t take subject matter too seriously.

The Accident Kill The Bee Gees $247.38

From The Auction:

ACCIDENT -Kill the Bee Gees - Original 45 on "No Threes records" One of my favorite singles..

This sleeve has to to be thought of as a later made version. It looks exactly like the original. Size, contrast, fold. everything.

The only difference is that the original is more yellow from age. It certainly could pass as the original, but I'm not playing that game.

The Gooses Just A Tailor $232.50

From The Auction:
As featured on the Shake Some Action comps, here's a mint copy of the sole release by Cleveland's Gooses.

The Supremes Stop In The Name Of Love $215.00

From the Auction:
ULTRA RARE and to many unknown to exist uniquely picture sleeved Norway release of this classic Motown 45. One of the coolest looking Supremes picture sleeves I have ever seen. These norwegian Motown picture sleeves were made in tiny quantities and are extremely hard to find in any condition.

2007 Bogle Petite Syrah Port and some pie

Time for some Pie and Port

Thanksgiving dessert - Fresh strawberry pie, pumpkin pie and a bit of Petite Syrah Port

Here's some info on the port from the website:

F R O M T H E W I N E M A K E R :

The Quick Ranch, located on Merritt Island
in Clarksburg, has long been one of Bogle’s best
producing Petite Sirah vineyards. This 30 acre
parcel, planted in 1995, has once again delivered
fruit of intensity and concentration, and remains
the source of Bogle’s ruby-style Petite Sirah Port.
In order to garner the richness and ripeness
needed in the production of Port, these vines were
not harvested with the rest of the Petite Sirah, but
allowed to linger on the vine a few weeks longer.
At 26 degrees brix, clusters were selectively handpicked
on October 15, 2007. Fermentation was
halted at 12 degrees when the wine was fortified,
allowing the residual sugar and alcohol content
to stabilize. This wine was then allowed to age
and mature in neutral American oak barrels for
27 months. Though the barrels were too old to
impart flavors or aromas to the Port, the natural
reduction process integrated and developed the
intensity, creating another stellar vintage.
A richness on the nose is immediately
complemented by touches of dark cherry and
anise. Hints of exotic liqueurs, jammy berries
and just the suggestion of cocoa powder envelop
the well balanced mouthfeel. Voluptuous and
enticing, this dessert wine will seduce even the
most reluctant of drinkers. This will be enjoyable
for the next 20 years.

FROM THE TASTER:

20 years? Might last til Saturday.......

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving day.

As you can see the Turkey is done. Ready to carve up the bird, get the potatoes mashed, gravy done and green beans steamed.

I've opened up a bottle of the 2009 Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel to go with the Turkey this afternoon.

Here's some propoganda from the website:

Our family roots are firmly planted in Zinfandel, as our great-grandfather, Edoardo Seghesio, first planted this historic varietal on our Alexander Valley Home Ranch in 1895. Today, we share his passion as we farm over 300 acres of estate Zinfandel in Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys.
This wine combines sites that have produced Zinfandel for over a century with newer sites that utilize proprietary clones and the most advanced viticultural practices.

Vineyard Locations Estate vineyards – Home Ranch, River Road, Lone Oak and San Lorenzo in Alexander Valley; Cortina in Dry Creek Valley.

Vintage Characteristics Overall, 2009 was a nearly ideal growing season with gradual ripening due to cooler temps with daily minimums below the 30-year average. Tannins and flavors developed gradually without the usual heat spikes, but a warm September punctuated the vintage by bringing the fruit to full ripeness.

Vineyard Regime Aggressive hand canopy management was maintained; both a green harvest and veraison thinning were performed to ensure even ripening and to keep crop loads in balance.

Hand-Harvested September 9th – October 8th, 2009

Average Brix at Harvest 26.5

Fermentation Regime 25% hand punch-down in small open-top fermenters, 50% pump-over fermentation in closed-top stainless steel with delestage and 25% rotary-tank fermentation; maceration time of 10 days

Barrel Regime Barrel aged for 10 months in 75% American (20% new) and 25% French oak
Food Affinities Red sauces, pizza, barbecue, spicy cuisine and a variety of meats

Alcohol –15.0%

Release Date – October 2010

Winemaker Notes: Wild berry patch aromas and scents of freshly baked bread Desired varietal markers of raspberries, blackberries and Zin’s briary spiciness reflect the excellent 2009 vintage Zin’s ever-present acidity enhances the finish and fine, dusty tannins add complexity, mouthfeel and structure Layered nuances of flavor with cracked pepper, tilled soil and a hint of creamy oak Characteristic synergy of components – balanced and elegantly structured

2007 Sextant Wines Wheelhouse Zinfandel

It's a bit rainy out here in Northern California tonight, so I got a hearty beef stew cooking on the stove. Uncorked a 2007 Sextant Wines Wheelhouse Zinfandel to go with it. Some nice legs on this one and it's pretty damn smooth for being 15.3% alcohol.

Here's some propoganda from the website:

APPELLATION: Paso Robles
COMPOSITION: 81% Zinfandel (Primativo 03, UCD 06)
16% Syrah (ENTAV 877)
2% Petite Sirah (UCD 03)
1% Mourvedre (ENTAV 369)
WINEMAKING: Barrel Aged 11 months: 6 % Eastern
European, 4% New French Oak
3,300 Cases Produced
Sextant’s Flagship Wine

TASTING NOTES: Sumptuous and inviting, the 2007
Sextant Wheelhouse Zinfandel summons a range of fruit
characteristics underscored by supple tannins. To begin,
a touch of cherries flow into hints of dark chocolate
which roll into soft notes of raspberries only to be
overtaken by a flavorful bite of red plums. Like the turn
of a wheel, the structure is circular and the finish lingers
with lasting momentum.

TECHNICAL NOTES:
Malolactic Fermentation ~ 100%
Total Acidity ~ .56g

Residual Sugar ~ .25
Alcohol ~ 15.3%

Elvis Costello El Macambo Live EP $450.00

AMONGST the RAREST of all Elvis Costello collectibles, this is the accompanying ep to the AUTHENTIC CANADIAN ELVIS LIVE AT THE el MOCAMBO promo lp. Though the lp itself has been heavily bootlegged and pirated......the ep never was. Originally there was 500 of the lp and 200 of the eps. A long time ago Nick told me that all but a handful of the eps were destroyed.

The disc contains the three encore songs that night done with Nick.. To my knowledge this is not available in any other format. Two of the songs made it on to one of Wes G's SEATTLE pirates of the lp but not ALL 3 SONGS! THIS IS NOT A FAKE OR A PIRATE. This is the AUTHENTIC real deal
