White White Witbier and a Scuzz Bomb on a Sunday

Well, Mr. Postman has been good to me these last few weeks.  Cheers go out to both Richard and Dan for posting some beer and tunes to me.  First up is the beer - Allagash White.

Allagash White is the flagship beer for the Allagash Brewery, founded in 1994 in Portland, Maine.  This beer is a traditional Witbier, brewed with wheat in the place of barley and is bottle conditioned, so it is nice andcloudy and you get a bit of a B-Vitamin bomb at the bottom of the bottle.  The wheat used gives the beer a nice light color and a very white head.  The taste is just heavenly with lemon, coriander and orange flavours shining through. It has been a bit of a scorcher today at the Pinhead Compound, so it is perfect that I have this beer that is light and crisp to go with a bit of Pinball and some great music.

Scuzz Bombe - the latest album from the band King Kool.  A bit of history in relation to the band and my discovery of them.  I am a follower of the band The Bonnevilles on ye olde facebook machine and one of their recent posts featured Dan Donovan of King Kool wearing one of the Bonneville's t-shirts in a video.  Well, there is your stamp of approval - I needed to hear more!  I subsequently played a King Kool song on the show a few months back and Dan contacted me and wondered if I would like to hear the whole album.  Well - the answer was a quick - YES!

The package arrived just before my vacation and I was floored to see some of the packaging choices made.  The disc looks like an album and the case included a killer poster with the lyrics on the back side.  Scuzz Bombe from King Kool - you need this in your ears.

Victory Brewing Company DirtWolf Double IPA

It's a scorcher outside this June afternoon.  Good thing I have the deep dark confines of the Pinhead Studios to retreat to and enjoy a rare treat.  Now, I can find some of the Victory Brewing company's beer out here on the left coast, like the HopDevil IPA and the Prima Pils, but some of the more limited releases are hard to get out here, as the Brewery is located in Pennsylvania.  That is where my friend and fellow Real Punk Radio cohort Greg Lonesome comes into the picture.  You see, I've been trading some beers with him in sort of a Brew Exchange Pact (you send me some local beers and I'll send you some local beers).  So, one of the beers he sent my way was the DirtWolf.

This beer pours a bit hazy and with a nice tall white head.  Smells dark and danky, but wow, what a wonder on the tongue.  Those same dark and dank flavors provide a solid foundation and then a nice high note is given with a wonderful Tangerine, Citrus flavor that finishes the experience.  That is DirtWolf.  What a wonderful beer that we need to have out here in California.  So, if you are listening Victory - please send some out our way!

So the facts - 8.7 % ABV.  Whole Flower Citra, Chinook, Simcoe and Mosaic hops.  Aha - Mosaic - that must be the citrusy tangeriney flavor that I'm getting - absolutely love beers with that hop featured!  Mucho thanks Greg - see the link to his great show below.

Victory has a wonderful video overview of the Brewery that I've included below - Cheers!

Manifesto Mango

Another rare beer here - Isolated Desert Compound Brewing's Manifesto Mango brewed up by listener Brent and in collaboration with Greg Lonesome of the Rock N Roll Manifesto.  This one is way over the top - at 10.5% alcohol, this Triple hits you with a burst of Mango and then rolls you over with some malty, caramelly (is that a word?) goodness.  The only drawback was the finish - wow bitter as hell!  Didn't stop me from enjoying it though....

From the label - A triple IPA brewed with Mango and generously hopped with Centennial, Columbus, Nugget and Simcoe hops.

Thanks for sending me one my way Brent - look closely above - 300 points when lit!
