Leinenkugel Oktoberfest

A crisp October afternoon out here on the left coast - the grill is fired up and the Brats are plumping up.  What better to have with Brats than an Oktoberfest. This one is from the Leinenkugel Brewery outta Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.  Brewing since 1867 and regularly dissed by the Beer Hipsters, the brewery produces many fine beers, including this Oktoberfest.  Highly drinkable and perfect with the Brats, this beer has a wonderful blend of pale, Caramel and Munich Malts with Tettnang, Perle and Cluster hops to provide the balance.

Cheers!

2010 14 Hands Hot To Trot Red

Cloudy and heading for rain is the forecast here on the left coast.  I've got a nice bottle of Red open for the evening.  It's a 2010 14 Hands Winery Hot To Trot Red Blend.  Yeah - I know- what a cute name.  Well, in  spite of the cute name, this well constructed blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet checks in at a rather restrained 13.5% alcohol and is smooth as a baby's bottom.  Well balanced and rich with a wonderfully red fruit jam character.  I should have known it would be a keeper when I read on the Wine Curmudgeon that this is from the Chateau St. Michelle group.  A very experienced winery with a deft hand that make some great wines.  This one goes for about a tenner - quite a bargain in my view.

Some propaganda from the Winery - 14 Hands Hot To Trot Red Blend

The Wine Curmudgeon article that I mentioned -  Wine of the Week

Received a CD in the post this last week - Sawyer's Hope - the latest album from Brighton, England's Mudlow.  Put some Howlin' Wolf, Morphine and the Cramps in a pot - stir it up - that's Mudlow.  Great stuff - highly recommended!

Oskar Bues Brewery Deviant Dale's IPA

A gorgeous fall afternoon out here on the left coast.  Took a break from the football to play a bit of Pinball, crack open a can of IPA and listen to the latest album from the Bonnevilles.  What a great album by the Irish band and what a great beer from the Oksar Blues Brewery.  This one is Deviant Dale's IPA and clocks in at 8.0 % ABV and 85 on the IBU scale.  It won a Silver Award for IPA's in the Great American Beer Festival last year and is just awesome.  Big, huge head with the lovely peaks and valleys that get caught on your upper lip.  Hopped to the bejesus and with enough malt to balance it out, this one is best served a bit warmer that refrigerator temp, as the fine flavor notes will be better savored.  This one comes in a 16 ounce tall boy and is sold as a 4 pack.  Check out the video below, as it tells a bit of the story of the beer and the new canning line at the Oskar Blues Brewery.

Below - some details on the package I received from Andy of the Bonnevilles.  A nice promo copy of the new Cd and a wonderful hand written note from the guitarist of the band.  Love the sticker that sealed the package!
