2007 Marr Cellars Old Vine Zinfandel

Uncorked a 2007 Marr Cellars Old Vine Zinfandel tonight. A nice way to finish up a day of painting. Yes, the Pinhead studio, which happens to be the Family room, is getting a new coat of paint - a cheerful shade of yellow.

Ventured down to my local wine merchant Wednesday evening and he lead me over to this Zinfandel with one word "Jammy". What a "Fruit Bomb" and at 16.1% alcohol, it packs a punch. It was a"fruitful" night, as I also visited one of the local independent record stores and they had some "new" arrivals in the 45 bins. Picked up a Queers 7" and the great Sons Of Hercules 7" that you can see in the photo above.

Let's see what kinda propoganda is on the back label of the Zin: This wine exhibits dense aromas, rich bright fruit character on the palate finishing with lingering spice and spoft tannins. The grapes for this Old Vine Zinfandel are from the Mattern Ranch located in the upland area southeast of Ukiah, Mendocino County. The low yeilding vines are planted in well drained soils prior to 1935. The meticulously maintained hillside vineyard is dry farmed and head pruned. The grapes were fermented in small lots with selected yeast. The wine was aged in French and Amercican cooperage for 16 months with minimal handling.

Well written and, hey, the wine is good too!
