2011 Murphy Goode Homefront Red

A Blustery Sunday out here on the West Cast.  Keeping warm with a Red Blend from the fine folks at the Murphy Goode Winery in Healdsburg.  The blend is called Homefront Red and is a blend of Zinfandel, Merlot, Petite Sirah , Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The interesting thing about the wine is the fact that proceeds from the sale of the wine goes to Operation Homefront, which provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.

The wine pours a nice dark red, most likely due to the Petite Verdot and smells of Vanilla and Oak.  On the tongue more vanilla and sour cherry, plum and spice.  I have to admit that when I went to purchase the wine I was looking for either the Murphy Goode Pinot Noir or one of their Zinfandels (Liar's Dice or Snake Eyes).  This wine is very nice, but I'd not go back for another bottle as I'd select the Pinot Noir or one of the Zinfandels first.

Cheers,
Jerry
