Black Eye Ale Mendocino Brewing Company

It's a great Fall Sunday Afternoon and I have opened up 22 ounces of  Autumn goodness called a Black Eye Ale from the Mendocino Brewing Company in Ukiah, Ca.  No, didn't get a black eye when I popped the top on this one.  This beer is a combination of Mendocino's Black Hawk Stout and their Eye of the Hawk Select Ale - get the connection?

This beer pours a dark burgundy with a small khaki brown head that dissipates rather quickly.  Aromas of brown sugar and butterscotch tempt the nose and the first taste is malt forward with
a wonderful roundness that finishes with a bit of an IPA bite.  This is sort of a Black and Tan, but made with a hoppier ale, so maybe it's in a category of it's own.  Surprising light - kind of like the Black Lagers that have been a bit of a rage lately.  Yes - A bit like those, but with some hop bite - a nice combination.  It should go well with the Turkey Chili bubbling away in the crockpot.  Ah yes - I  love the Autumn - Dark beers and comfort foods.

Nabbed the latest Dog Party at 1-2-3-4 Go yesterday and picked up a Full Breach Kicks records release from the Jones - had lotsa fun diggin in the stacks-o-wax!

In the bathroom at 1-2-3-4 Go records

The Slick Chick is fully operational!  Taking it's place next to to Lighting Ball - might need to move it across the studios to the larger lineup  - hmmm choices.....

Cheers,
Jerry
