2009 Dona Paula Estate Malbec

A beautiful Sunday afternoon out here in Red Red Wine On A Sundayland. The rain has subsided for a bit and I've got the grill cranked up. Got some Chorizo on the grill and I've made a homemade Argentinian Chimichurri sauce to go with them - I've included the recipe below.

The wine this evening is a Malbec made from grapes grown in the Dona Paula Estate vineyards in the Mendoza region of Argentina. Dark, rich and dry, this Malbec is not for the faint of heart.
Highly recommended - check out the website here ----> Dona Paula

Argentinian Chimichurri

Ingredients:

· 2 cups fresh parsley and/or cilantro, firmly packed

· 1/4 cup fresh oregano leaves (optional)

· 3-6 cloves of garlic

· 2 tablespoons chopped onion

· 1/2 cup olive oil

· 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

· 1 tablespoon lime juice

· Salt and red pepper flakes to taste

Preparation:

1. Pulse the garlic and onion in the food processor until finely chopped.

2. Add the parsley and/or cilantro, and oregano if using, and pulse briefly, until finely chopped.

3. Transfer the mixture to a separate bowl. Add the olive oil, lime juice, and vinegar, and stir. (Adding the liquids outside of the blender gives the chimichurri the correct texture. You don't want the herbs to be completely puréed, just finely chopped).

4. Season with salt and red pepper flakes to taste.

5. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Ebay Rock 45's (3/25/11)

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently along with the corresponding video - so ya get to hear what the fuss is all about!

Here's the list for the week ending March 24th, 2011

Manic Street Preachers Suicide Alley $1000.00

From the Auction:
This is The Manic Street Preachers first release. There was a pressing of 300 total. There were 100 with newspaper cutout collage & 200 with hand glued cardboard jackets. This record is from the 200 edition. It is the original,I bought when it first came out as a mail order directly from the band.

The Exploding Hearts Modern Kicks $49.99

From the Auction:

Limited Edition or 200 (or was it only 100 on Pink/Swirl?) pressed, Original first Pressing
Essential Power Pop garage Punk!

Here's a special treat that I found - went for about $400! ($8 a piece - what a bargain!)

Released by the Garage Greats label in 5 batches of 10 singles in 2008 & 2009 (I think), all strictly limited to 500 copies, numbered by hand! Some of these are already hard to come by, and you will have to spend some time (and postage) if you want to collect a complete set of this series today. The singles typically retailed for around USD 10 each, and I offer free postage, so don't let this opportunity pass you by!

Here is a description, probably from the label: "A new label dedicated to reissuing the best and rarest 1960's garage 45s from around the world. Each 45 has been re-mastered at the world famous Abbey Road Studios with the intention of reproducing the original singles exactly, the only changes were raising the db levels to give maximum playback enjoyment. Some of these 45s are so rare as to be simply impossible to find no matter how deep your pockets." "In keeping with the original releases the original labels have been reproduced faithfully. Each release is a hand-numbered limited edition of 500 that comes in a generic Garage Greats house bag."

TV Trays anyone?:

2009 Reserve Perrin Cotes Du Rhone

It is raining Cats and Dogs out here in Pinhead land. Hope everyone is stayin dry today. I've got some Pork Chops sauteeing and will be adding some more good stuff soon - the recipe is below.

Cracked open the Cotes Du Rhone above and will be adding just a bit to the pan to deglaze the good stuff, but I want most of it! Nice and spicy, I'l be back to my local grocer to get more of this one. I believe it was about $7 and well worth it.

Here's some propaganda about the wine -----> Chateau de Beaucastel

The recipe:

Red Wine Pork Chops

~1 pound of Boneless Pork Chops

Salt, Pepper and Marjoram Leaves

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

½ cup Red Wine

1 cup seedless Red Grapes, chopped

½ cup Low Sodium Chicken Broth

1 Tablespoon Rosemary

1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar

1 Tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar

1. Dry the pork chops to absorb any extra moisture (I used a paper towel-removing the moisture helps brown the pork while cooking). Season with salt, pepper and some Marjoram.

2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Once pan is hot, add the pork and cook each side for 4 minutes. Remove pork from skillet onto a plate and cover with foil.

3. Add the red wine to the skillet and scrape off the brown bits. Add the grapes, Rosemary and broth. Cook for 4 minutes. Add the balsamic and red wine vinegar and cook for an additional 4 minutes.

4. Serve the pork chops topped with the grapes and sauce.

5. Cheers!

The Replacements on the 1989 International Rock Awards

We apologize, here they are, The Replacements

Ok, your wondering what the heck were the International Rock Awards? Well, the award show lasted 3 years (1989 - 1992) and "honored excellence in popular music". I just remember being shocked to see the Replacements open an award show. What a perfect song for them to play in that situation.

Some Highlights for me:

Paul saying "What the hell are we doing here" just before starting the song

The tongue stuck out at the camera at about the :53 mark

The network bleeps out "the pills we took" around the 1:20 mark, Paul rolls his eyes...

"It's too late to take pills" instead of "It's too late to turn back" to end the song.

2006 Renwood Old Vin Zinfandel

A Beautiful afternoon here at the Pinhead Studios. Got some Irish Stew bubbling away on the stove and I've cracked open the Zin - a 2006 Renwood Old Vine Zinfandel to be exact.

15% alcohol and lotsa fully ripened fruit in this one. Love me some Zin! Here's some more info from the Renwood website -

The 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel is comprised of the best selection of Old Vine vineyard lots in the Shenandoah Valley, each adding its own nuance and complexity to the final blend. The 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel is a lovely ruby color. The terrior of Amador produces grapes that have aromas that are reminiscent of holiday spices, white pepper and cedar. The flavor has ripe fruit with a background of nutmeg and mace. The tannins are chalky, giving the wine a good structure. Aging in new American Oak lends a note of vanilla and a hint of coffee bean to round out the mélange of flavors.

Headed over to a local record swap this morning and found a treasure - the Pinball Summer soundtrack from 1980. Pinball Summer is a classic cheese filled summer movie that was made for the Canadian market. You can still find the movie on DVD, but it has been renamed Pick-up Summer. The album lists a couple of covers (Do Ya Wanna Dance and Evil Woman) but the rest are originals. There is even a "Pinball Summer" song - wonder if it has any vocals? Could it be on the next Red Red Wine On A Sunday Pinball episode - maybe - I'll be spinning it this evening.
Also picked up a nice stack of 45's - see below
