2008 Grand Vin De Bordeaux from the Chateau de Seguin

Uncorked a 2008 French Bordeaux from Chateau De Sequin for this foggy Red Wine Sunday. 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet and 10% Cabernet Franc in this bottle. About $10 over at Trader Joes, this wine won a Bronze award at the 2010 Paris Agricultural show.

The first taste brought on some nice raisin and strawberry flavors with a bit of a bite from the tannins (most likely from the Cabernet). Ahh- but it is getting better with a second glass. I've added a bit to the sauteed mushrooms and onions that will top the grilled T-Bones tonite. Can't wait to have a mouthful of the Bordeaux and steak! Cheers!

The Rolling Stones She's A Rainbow $206.39

From The Auction: RARE 45 r.p.m. Picture Sleeves!!! Would you like to travel back in time about 50 years and collect rock and roll picture sleeves in brand NEW condition? Sure you would! Well, today's the day! I'm selling off my private collection of rare items!

THIS AUCTION is for a scarce Rolling STONES sleeve in NM condition: She's a Rainbow // 2000 Light Years from Home
Back in the 1950's, a San Francisco juke box dealership bought from one to twenty copies of all the hit records. They stocked individual juke boxes with these records, custom-picked by customers who rented the individual juke boxes for private dances-------filled with their favorite hit records of the day! Let's have a party!

When plain record sleeves (with their 4-inch holes) held a record, the juke box dealer could hold a stack of 45's on his thumb. But sleeves with photos didn't have holes, and they couldn't be stacked on his thumb! So this dealer REMOVED the illustrated picture sleeves and stacked them in the corner of the room, and put the records in heavy-paper green sleeves, and that problem was solved!

Then, in 1974, the juke box dealer let me into his stock room to buy stuff. The 45 rpm records were fine-to-mint, neatly stored on shelves, alphabetically labeled, and $1 each! Even being a starving college student, I bought over 100 records, the big Find-of-the-Day being Elvis' "That's All Right" on the SUN label......for just $1!!! Yes, I still have it to this day!

And over in the corner of the room were UNUSED 45 rpm Picture Sleeves, stacked all the way to the ceiling!!! Many were pop standards (Frank Sinatra, etc) but about 10% of them were in the category of Rock 'N Roll. So I bought them!

Here's a special treat for you Elvis Costello fans - an auction of 49 EC singles that went for $200!

Click here ------> "Elvis" to go to the auction to check the titles - nice selection!

2009 Cellier Du Rhone Cotes Du Rhone

Just uncorked my second Cotes Du Rhone this year. This one is from Cellier Du Rhone and is from the 2009 vintage.

Much better than the Caves Des Papes that I tried back on the 2nd, but still only about $5 over at Trader Joes. Light and with a hint of Raspberries. Very drinkable and smooth. Now, if you are a Zin lover like me, be prepared that this is very different. Lower alcohol and lighter in color, this is going to go well with the grilled chicken, onions and peppers that I've prepared tonight for the family.

I've learned now that the Cote Du Rhone wines are typically produced from the Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignane and Mouvedre grapes. Unlike Californian wines, the percentages of the blend are completely up to the winemaker. In California, if you are drinking a Cabernet Sauvignon, you are assured that at least 75% of the grapes used in the wine were Cabernet Sauvignon. With a Fench wine, ya really don't know what is in there, it's a mystery.

One thing I have to say about inexpensive French wines - what is up with the funky bottle shapes????

Here's the propoganda from the webite : Pasquier Desvignes

Sideways in Japan

If you have seen the movie Sideways (an ode to Santa Barbara Pinot Noir), you no doubt remember the scene above where Miles (having just received bad news about his book project) self-medicates himself with the dregs of a tasting room dump bucket.

Well, it seems that the Japanese film industry realized that the story might just be popular in Japan too. Here's the trailer (in Japanese, but even if you don't understand, you get the picture).:

Now, I've read a bit about the Japanese version and they changed a couple of things - it is set in Napa Valley, the wine that is championed is Cabernet Sauvignon and the crucial back porch scene has been cut. But, if you watched the trailer, the dump bucket scene is executed perfectly!
