Two of the Teen Kings (Kennelly and Ellis) provided the accompaniment and the sax player is either James Morrow or Jimmy Seals. The lead guitarist is possibly Roy Orbison. 2009 Carmen Gran Reserva Apalia Vineyard Carmenere

Wow - nice red. Carmenere is a varietal that doesn't get much love in the US. This one is from Chile and the Carmen winery. Big and lusty is what I love about his one - lotsa smoke and fruit, with just a hint of the tannins that give some backbone to the wine. Nice looong finish too. This is gonna go well with the grilled pork loin on the menu tonight.

Cheers!

2010 Menage A Trois Red

Uncorked a 2010 Menage A Trois Red this afternoon. It is from the Folie A Deux Winery in St. Helena. This wine is the perfect compliment to an afternoon or early evening session at the grill. A glass while you are grilling up that steak and enjoying the appetizers and then another with the fruits of your labor.

Tonight, I've got a nice Rib-Eye marinating in some of the wine, Balsamic Vinegar and garlic. The grill is working on a dozen small red yellow and orange peppers, slices of red onion and halved zucchini. Cheers!

Here's some propoganda about the Menage A Trois Red:

From the Folie A Deux Winery site -

Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows:
Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity
and retain character, each variety was fermented separately,
then blended together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got
Zinfandel, a saucy tease that brings blackberry and raspberry
jam to the relationship. Merlot, with its generous mouth feel
and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle. The rich flavors
and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the ideal
candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

Here's a review of the wine on the Reverse Wine Snob website -

The 2009 Folie à Deux Ménage à Trois is a very sweet, albeit somewhat thin, wine. It was a little sweeter than I prefer, but my wife liked it quite a bit. Overall nothing spectacular but this is a solid, easy drinker that's only $7.49. I can see why this wine is quite popular for some. Try pairing with spicy foods to offset the sweetness a bit.

And finally, a video from Ryno the Wino who loves this wine -

Old Chico Crystal Wheat

Poured the last of a six pack of Old Chico Crystal Wheel tonight. Brewed up by the kind folks at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, this one is only available locally up here in Northern California.

Originally only poured at the Brewery in Chico, the Brewery describes the beer thus: "Brewed using 65% wheat malt and 35% barley malt. This filtered wheat beer is light blonde in color, light bodied and has a wonderfully clean finish. This is a great choice for craft brew novices and beer aficionados alike."

I've loved all six of these and I'll be heading back for more. Smooth, Smooth, Smooth!

Here's a great link to a review of the beer: Guys Drinking Beer

Cheers!
