Happy New Year's Eve from Red Red Wine On A Sunday - The Forchini Challenge is tonite!

Well, tonite is New Year's Eve - a couple of red wine lovin' friends are on their way over and I've planned a contest to spring on 'em.

Yes, it is time for the Forchini Challenge.

2 bottles of Zinfandel produced from grapes sourced from the same vineyard.

2 different winemaking styles.

What wine will emerge triumphant?

The Contestants:

2007 Folie A Deux Forchini Vineyard Zinfandel

2006 Forchini Vineyards and Winery Proprietor's Reserve Zinfandel

The Rules - a blind tasting will be conducted later this evening - preferences will be tallied and the results will be up on New year's Day (yeah - I know- the suspense is killin' YA!)

Have a great New Years's Eve!

Update - it's a tie - 3 votes for the Folie A Deux and 3 for the Forchini

I voted for the Forchini - classic old world style Zin.

Happy New Year's Day!

Ebay Rock 45's (12/31/10)

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently.
Here's the list for Friday, the 31st of December, 2010

Guilty Razors Don't Wanna Be Rich $454.99

From the Auction:
Here is one of rarest french punk records. Both vinyl & sleeve are 100% original pressing from Polydor Records. Not a reissue. I heard there were only 500 pressed, and Polydor melted most copies of this after released. Most of the surviving copies are for promos, therefore they have cut-corners or promo stamps. But this PS have neither cut-corners nor stamps. Impossible to find this PS.

John Frusciante Estrus $325.00

From the Auction: I bought this the day it came out in 1997 at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset and Crescent Heights in LA. I was a teenager and I remember the record store clerks telling me that they used to spot Frusciante there in that actual store, high on heroin, dropping $800 on cds at a time. I would always geek out at the idea that I was buying records form the same place my hero was buying records. (Later I had my only Frusciante sighting at the Sunset 5 Theater next door, the weekend that John Waters' "Serial Mom" came out. I worked there. I tore his ticket when he came in. He blew smoke in my face and I almost died and went to heaven.)

The EP came out a couple weeks before "Smile From the Streets You Hold, if I'm not mistaken. I had thought it was the release date for "Smile" but of course was down to buy the EP. I took it home and played it once. I've always known it was rare but only recently did I discover that there were only 400-500 copies printed on Birdman Records.

"Estress" is the spelling variant of "Estrus", and was a track that appeared on "Smile From the Streets You Hold."

The Sons Of Adam Feathered Fish $299.00

From the Auction: Here's a superb Mint, Unplayed copy of the Sons of Adam Alamo 45 FEATHERED FISH/BABY SHOW THE WORLD. Feathered Fish was written by the great Arthur Lee (of Love) and both sides feature excellent guitar by Randy Holden of the Other Half/Blue Cheer/Fender IV. An absolutely unimprovable copy of this classic.

Nirvana / Melvins Split Velvet Underground Tribute $294.48

From the Auction: On Communion records (Comm 23.)
Limited purple/ lavender/ grey marbled vinyl.
Both bands do Velvet Underground covers;
  1. Nirvana - Here She Come Now
  2. The Melvins - Venus in Furs

Emeralds Earthquake $263.00

From the Auction: VERY RARE MONSTER SURF INSTRUMENTALS- FLIP IS "SOFTLY FALLS THE MORNING DEW" (NOTHING SOFT ABOUT THIS!!)

Here's an interesting auction that I couldn't resist posting:

Blog Spotlight - Largehearted Boy

If you are a fan of year end lists (OK - I confess - I love em), you must head over to the Largehearted Boy blog (click - HERE), as the author compiles for you a ton of lists. Not only can you find music lists (my favorite), but also a list of year end Book lists. The author also has a Daily Download post which steers you over to some great free downloads and his daily Shorties list some great links to music and literature sites. Here's a taste -

If you remember and liked the old Fimoculous site that listed music lists all the way back to the 2003 (now sadly, somewhat defunct), Largehearted Boy has taken the baton and hit the ground running. Great stuff!

In 2 weeks, I'll be heading back to the year of 2003. Laci Peterson, Kobi Bryant - wait, maybe we need to skip that year. Ah, but we got some great music that year - Lawrence Arms, Calexico, White Stripes, Exploding Hearts ....

If you have any suggestions or songs to contribute to either of those shows, please let me know at redredwineonasunday@gmail.com

Don't forget, if you'd like to subscribe to the show, just click the big Itunes logo on the upper right hand side of the page.

2010 Georges Duboef Beaujolais Nouveau

Getting ready for the 72nd edition of Red Red Wine On A Sunday coming up Live on Real Punk Radio in a few hours.

Cracked open a 2010 George Duboef Beaujolais Nouveau for the occasion. It' is going great with the leftover Tri-tip from last night's family gathering at the Pinhead compound.

Didn't know much about Beaujolais Nouveau. It was a Christmas gift and I've been doing some research over at the Wiki page - here and at a great blog called Into Wine right here.

Cheers!

Merry Christmas from Red Red Wine On A Sunday!

Here's a toast to you on this fine Christmas day - I raise my glass of 2008 Napa Cellars Zinfandel to all out in the interwebs. Got some Ribeyes on the grill for Christmas dinner and then it is off to the in-Laws for dessert. Hope they remembered to get the Punkin' Pie!

Hope everyone got what they wished for. Anything it is better that the lump of coal in my stocking......hehehe.
