Radio Birdman Burn My Eye $310.00

From the Auction:
Talk about a rare one! From the ashes of the stooges and mc5 come Australian rock n roll legends radio birdman. Believed to be a print run of 800-1000 back in 1976. Distributed by mail-order, a couple Sydney record stores, and by the band themselves this is as rare as they come! And this ones in great condition! Heavy stock cardboard sleeve is bright and shiny. Has a couple stress marks and a slight crease on the front top, slightly rubbed corners, and minor stress tears on the top and bottom edges and spine- all where the record has been stored in for 35 years! Back cover has a small stress crease on the top and very minor scuffing. Hand stamped logo on vinyl that looks like it was pressed yesterday! Absolutely flawless, clean, and unplayed. I put it on once just to hear it. Not a numbered edition or repress. A true one of a kind punk rock collectable that has been the apex of my collection for years.

2009 Gerard Bertrand Corbier

Working on a 2009 vintage Corbieres from Gerard Bertrand this evening out in Red Red Wine On A Sunday land. The first glass is helping with the inspiration for tomorrow night's show - all about the Small Faces - mixing in some great stuff.

This wine is mixed with some great stuff too (Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre) - from the website:

Gerard Bertrand was born and raised in the South of France. Making wine with his father, Georges, since the age of 10, Gerard Bertrand offers the full range and diversity of wines from the region – red, white, rose, varietal, appellation, estate, still, sparkling, and dessert. Every wine evokes the image and emotions from the South of France; “Art de Vivre” – the “art of life”. Committed to producing quality wines of great value, Gerard is hands on in every facet which bears his name… and has been fortunate to receive great accolades from World Wide press reinforcing his dedication.

Cheers!

From the Auction: Garage band The Litter. 45 record is on Warick Records, 944S-6712. Side 1: "Whatcha Gonna Do About It?", side 2: "Action Woman".

Dib Cochran and The Earwigs Oh Baby $560.00

From the Action: Here is THE legendary Marc Bolan single under the guise of Dib Cochran and The Earwigs on Bell BLL 1121. The debate still rages as to whether Bowie played on this or not, but irrespective of that, this is one of - if not THE - rarest Marc Bolan records in existence. This record is in sublime condition. The 'factory sample NOT FOR SALE' sticker is very common for the few of these records in existence. There are two superficial scuff marks, but other than that, it is in fantastic condition. I will grade it EX, although I have seen many supposedly EX records much worse than this. It truly is a gem. This came from a private collection of a guy whose dad worked with Bolan (I guarantee this is true) and I think that if it has been played, it's likely less than a handful of times. I would actually rate the B side as a conservative Near Mint. The record collector value of this record is 500 pounds, which is why I've started the auction at such a high price. If I've priced it too high, at least I get to keep it :) Comes in its original Bell cover as shown, which is also in great shape.

Amos Milburn Chicken-Shack Boogie $326.27

2009 Radio Boca Tempranillo

A wine with the name of Radio Boca? - well I had to pick it up down at my local World Market just for the name alone. Hmm - the wine is nice and smooth too. What - you say? They have a Facebook page for the wine? Wow - now that is a bit over the top - even if I am only the 59th person to like the site. Not only a nice Facebook page, but a really nice website too? Ok - now that is impressive. And the wine is impressive too - 100% Tempranillo and if I had to guess it has a bit of residual sugar to round out the edges. That's OK - I'm pretty sure it's is gonna go well with the BBQ Chicken Breasts that are on the grill.

Some propaganda from the website:

Radio Boca is from Valencia. You've probably heard of Valencia in reference to its famous oranges, or its famous dish, the Paella. There's also a raucous festival in Valencia, The Falles known worldwide for its all night revelry. But Valencia also produces a very fine Tempranillo. The Tempranillo in Radio Boca grows mostly on the mountainside, on head pruned vines 25-50 years old. Altitude with attitude. The soils vary from dark miocene to chalky lime. Balmy days, brisk nights. What's not to like for a vine living in Valencia?? The people from Valencia make a point of getting the most out of life. So do the wines.

Cheers!

2008 Tormaresca Puglia Neprica

Time to head over to Italy with this great blend. It's a 2008 Tormaresca Puglia Neprica and it is pairing well with the Tortellini Marinara that I've whipped up this evening. Here's the propaganda from the label:

NePriCa, a ruby red wine named after the grapes in the blend (Negroamaro, Primitivo and Cabernet Sauvignon), has aromas of berries and light, spicy licorice. It is a harmonious blend with favors of dark fruit, chocolate and hints of licorice with a balanced acididty.

Here's a couple of reviews as well - Three Nine Wine and Wine Curmudgeon.

I actually have to thank a neighbor for spotting me at my local grocery and draggin me over to the display that they had of this wine. He had brought back an emptied bottle to the store just so he could remember the wine and buy 6 more bottles. I had to try a bottle after seeing that!

Well, he was right and I'll be back for more too.

Cheers!

Screaching Weasel If You Can't Have Fun EP $1.325.oo

From the Auction :

The Fact that I even place this one up for sale, entitles me to write whatever the fuck I want to write about in its description.

I looked at all my one of a kind items, actually, put them all in front of me, and asked myself which one of these stays with me forever? I decided I would limit myself to only keeping one. I have three silkscreens, two are up for sale now, one is to come. I have my torn up Bright Yellow Jughead shirt which I used to wear to all our early concerts for the first two years, before we were even Screeching Weasel. When we were All Night Garage Sale. This shirt is why I got the name Jughead. I never read Archie comics, could barely give two shits about those comics or naming any project referencing these comic books. I was more fascinated by the fact that the word "Jughead" is actually in the dictionary. "Jughead. Slang. A stupid or foolish person. (1925 -1939)." The dictionary I had then and still have now, that word is in the corner of the page for "J". That meant infinitely more to me, that my name helped people find words like, judicative an jugulate. And the fact that I have always considered myself, a clown, a fool (and a juggler), gave this moniker more meaning than anyone could ever know. This is why I still keep the name around now. (The shirt I might auction off, just don't know if anyone wants a bright yellow rag) In front of me was also my Westone Guitar, with Benneton sticker and pen caps for a bridge. I am pretty sure I am the only Weasel member that still has their original guitar. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Vapid and Ben auctioned theirs off. This guitar was played at every show and on every record up until Bark Like a Dog, when it stopped working and I bought two Gibson sgs (One which I gloriously destroyed on the House Of Blue's Stage, even dented the floor with that "rock".) with the Fat Wreck Chords advance we received to record the aforementioned record. (50 Thousand Dollars). In the mean time I had a back up guitar, a Les Paul, I gave this to Andrea from the Manges. Anyway this guitar means alot to me. Ben's guitar had Mr. Yuck stickers and mine had Yellow Smiley Faces. Perfect. This is the one I must keep. All memories attached to SW can be generated by this single item. It is all I need to keep all else that has followed comfortably in my thoughts. So to make a long story even longer. The item, here, is one I can barely fathom selling, yet it makes sense. It is a playable part of our history and neither am I a player of vinyl nor a collector of band memorabilia. So it must go.
THIS ITEM: This may be the only one in existence, I am confident that if that is not so, then it is one of two in existence. After our first record, self titled, we became good friends with the Ozfish Experience and decided to put out a split 7 inch with them. Warren did much of the work. We recorded at Solid Sounds studio August 1987, both bands in there together. We cranked this thing out in one day. (Or probably overnight since that was usually all we could afford.) Both bands put in 500 bucks. Ben worked at the Gas Station and I worked at Randhurst Movie Theater. Every cent we made went into this. The plan was to have a record release and Dirty Nellies, where Matt Nelson helped us book punk shows bringing in bands like Operation Ivy, Mr. T, Crimpshrine and Greenday to Illinois for the first time. A few days before the show, we got two test pressings, one went to me and one went to Warren. We okayed the pressing. We made up 500 black and white covers and got them already for the arrival of the vinyl. The day of the show the vinyl still hadn't shown up. As we were getting close to opening the doors for the night, Warren tells me and Ben that the pressing plant burned down. "What!" It burned down, melted all our vinyl and took the master recordings with it. I put the test pressing in one of the envelopes and said something like, "Instant collectors item." (Joking really, having no idea that we would amount to a band that people would actually go out of their way to collect our items.) We through the rest of the jackets in the garbage. Some of these songs, I think showed up on other Sw collections, all taken from me putting the record on the turntable, recording it with a cassette and sending them to the person putting together the compilation. I think the only song re-recorded was I
Hate Led Zeppelin... maybe American Suicide. These are the original versions. The 7inch has been played, but not much. It was in my milk crate of rare items that got caught in the flood, but this one was sitting on top and was completely untouched. That is the story, behind this item. Even this story, I contemplated cutting and pasting into a document for me to keep, since I have never put the history of this ep to paper. But even this belongs to the moment and the ether. And so there it goes. I am putting a high price on this item, because in reality it is worth one thousand dollars, but I would never pay that for this piece of valuable crap.

1. I hate Led Zeppelin
2. American Suicide
3. A Political Song For Screeching Weasel to Sing
4. Twinkie Warfare.

***All I ask is that the buyer record these onto a cd for me.
Other info: I have no secretary, I have no personal driver, I own a house, but actually didn't even use Weasel money for that down payment, I worked at Crown Books for that money. All money I have ever made goes right back into creating art. Even the sales of these items are going to be used to keep me afloat till September, so that I can concentrate on my new book and my probably last Neo Prime Time show, The Ladder. If I can make it to September I will send these creative pursuits out into the world and then get a job, until then, for awhile, like from the beginning, I will live hand-to-mouth, and that's kind of cool.

John Jughead.

2008 C.G. DiArie Sierra Foothills Zinfandel

Happy 4th of July - a bit early yes.... Had a few friends over last night for a B-B-Q and one of the neighbors brought over this nice C.G. DeAire 2008 Sierra Foothills Zinfandel. Went very well with the Tri-Tip, grilled veggies and burgers.

Cheers!

From the website:

he Zinfandel grapes used for making this wine came from three different vineyards: Davis Vineyard in Fair Play, Helwig Vineyards in Shenandoah Valley and our Estate Vineyard. Other varieties were added in order to improve the balance and add complexity to the wine.

This wine is bottled using screw cap as the closure. Our decision to use this closure was based on quality issues. By using the screw cap over the cork we avoid cork taint and the sporadic oxidation of the wine that emanates from the cork that at times leaks oxygen into the bottle resulting in variation in the quality of the wine from one bottle to the next.

Made in our “Submerged Cap” Fermentation Tank and aged in predominantly French oak for 14 months, this fully extracted and well balanced medium body wine is more elegant than robust. You will not overlook its strong varietal aromas of blackberries with hints of spice which carries into the mid-palate adding black cherry and plum flavors. The finish is long adding more spice and hints of chocolate.

Varietal Content: 78% Zinfandel, 9% Primitivo, Petite Sirah, 4% Tempranillo
Appellation: Sierra Foothills
Bottling Date: February 2, 2010
Cases Produced: 3200
Alcohol: 14.3%
pH: 3.55
Residual Sugar: Less than 0.1%
