Sierra Nevada KellerWeis and Consequential Lyrics

Retreated to the Pinhead Studios for a little Pinball, a new Zine and a nice Hefeweizen.  The beer is a Kellerweis from the fine folks over at Sierra Nevada Brewery.  A classic Hefeweizen in the German open fermented style, this one is very refreshing on this hot summer day.  Banana, cloves and a distinct sourness makes this one Killer.

The Zine is Consequential Lyrics, a 24 page handwritten and copied / folded traditional Zine written by frequent Red Red Wine On A Sunday contributor Elle of the Cassettes and Chocolate Milk blog and podcast.  I cannot recommend this Zine in any other way than to say I have been motivated by the prose to submit my own Consequential Lyric to her effort.  What song will it be?  I think you already know the band, but I'll have to wait until September 21st to decide which song it will be......

Ruhstaller Arendt California Tripel

A wonderful Labor Day weekend out here on the Left Coast.  I've popped open a nice Tripel to start the afternoon off nicely.  This one is a Ruhstaller Arendt California Tripel, a local small batched beer that I got a chance to try last Sunday out at the Ruhstaller Farm.  Picked up the nice little Ruhstaller logo'd glass that you see in the photo as well.  Now this Tripel is typical of the style - very malt forward with just a bit of Hops and lotsa sweetness.  My favorite Tripel is La Fin Du Monde and this Tripel is giving La Fin a run for it's money.  The Ruhstaller has some interesting Banana notes, most likely from the yeast chosen to ferment the malts, while the La Fin normally leans to the Apricot / Peach flavors.  I'm hoping the Ruhstaller folks brew this one up again at some point, since it looks like it is limited to just 200 cases for now.  I'll be heading out this week to find another bottle before it disappears.

This should go nicely later when cooling off the heat from a Carnitas salad I'm whipping up with some nice and HOT homemade salsa - yep - the three (or is it four) alarm kind.  Ghost peppers anyone?

Got my brand spanking new RPR T-Shirt - Thanks Tommer!

Note that the Burlap wrapped bottles are a tribute to the Hop Farmers - perfect sentiment for Labor Day!

2012 Bodega Norton Malbec

It's a nice August Sunday afternoon perfect for a bit of the old Red Red Wine.  Got a Bodega Norton Malbec opened up for tonight.  Now, I've tried the 2010 version of the wine a few years ago and Iwasn't too impressed.  This vintage is a bit better, but I might wait a couple more years to try it again.  It's got the prerequisite smoky character I love in Malbec, but is a bit thin for my taste - I like 'em big and bold!

Keep On Rolling!

Jerry
