Redox #49 - Here Comes A Regular

Originally posted on 9/12/10

Jukebox

Definition: A Cabinet containing an automatic record player; records are played by inserting a coin

Origin: The term "Juke Box" came into use in the United States around 1940, apparently from the familiar usage "Juke joint", derived from the Gullah word "Juke" or " Joog" meaning disorderly, rowdy, or wicked. This term, like thousands of words in the Gullah language, likely originated in West Africa near Sierra Leone.

Jerry's usage: Turn it on and turn it up! Let's get rowdy, disorderly and wicked!

This Sunday we celebrate those crazy mechanical devices that serve up the hot and tasty platters of tunes that we love.
