2009 Chateau De Pitray Premier Vin

Exploring some French wine again tonight - this one is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc and is from the Castillon Cotes De Bordeaux appelation - near the city of Bordeaux on the Dordogne river (#22 on the diagram below).

A wonderful smooth wine with classic muted Merlot flavors of berry, plum, currant and raisin - just a bit of the Cabernet Franc's pepper and herbal qualities that I am fond of only in small doses. Subdued and subtle, not like the Californian style of big and bold. This wine is going to go well with the brined chicken roasting in the oven tonight and the roasted potato, mushroom and onion mix roasting along side the chicken - soaking up the juices....

Here's a link to the Chateau's website ----> Chateau De Pitray (hmmm - they have guest rooms - a night at a seventeenth century Chateau? - could be fun...)

Oh yea - $9.99 at my local Costco - a bargain.
