Ebay Rock 45's (10/21/11)

Ebay Rock 45's

Each Friday, I post a select group of 5 rock 45's that sold on Ebay recently along with the corresponding video - so you can judge for yourself if the buyer got a good deal.

The Misfits Cough / Cool $1,970,00

From the Auction:

THE MISFITS

COUGH/COOL b/w SHE

AUTOGRAPHED BY GLENN DANZIG

GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC!!

1977 BLANK RECORDS 101

"Cough/Cool" is the first single released by the horror punk band the Misfits. It was released in August 1977 on singer Glenn Danzig's label Blank Records. 500 copies were produced on black 7" vinyl.

Ronnie Dawson Rockin' Bones $281.99

From the Auction:

Artist: Ronnie Dawson
Side A: Rockin' Bones Side B: Congratulations to Me
Label: Rockin' Records #1
Style: Rockabilly
Condition:
Record is conservatively a VERY strong VG. Very slight warp that doesn't affect play at all. Otherwise shiny, some pops but it sounds GREAT!

I recently bought over a hundred R&B and rockabilly 45s out of one of the most amazing collections I've ever heard of in Denver, Colorado. This collector had been at it for decades and had everything. I mean everything! I'm keeping many of them, particularly the black R&B 45s which are more what I tend to DJ. As tempted as I am to hold onto this admittedly perfect gem, I have a rule of not DJing records over $100 in value. Plus one of you will appreciate it more than me (I like rockabilly but it's not exactly my specialty).

Talk about O.G. This is probably one of the three or four most sought after rockabilly 45s out there and what a record it is... geez, should I really be selling this? In terms of condition, there's some sticker residue on the A-Side, which you can probably work off yourself. The vinyl is a very strong VG. I don't want to say VG+ as some might as there are some marks and there are some pops on the record but it plays fantastic on my turntable (trying to beat back second thoughts here).

To add to this, I didn't even notice until I got all of these records home that the outer sleeve (the record was packed in two 45 sleeves) was autographed by the man himself. If I read the handwriting correctly, it reads "To Mary Lou Love you always Ronnie Dawson".

This is definitely, I repeat definitely, the original pressing. I've had several rockabilly fanatic friends of mine here take a look. You can tell by the color of the label (the reissues are a much brighter red) among other ways. If you'd like deadwax info, feel free to email me.

Queen Seven Seas Of Rhye $237.50

From the Auction:

Artist: QUEEN

Side A: SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE

Side B: SEE WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN

Country: YUGOSLAVIA

Company: JUGOTON - EMI

Number: SEMI 88753

Condition:

cover - VERY GOOD to VERY GOOD PLUS

record - FAIR to GOOD (visually graded, but it plays much better) - small writing on the both sides of the label

Description + basic informations:

THIS EXTRA RARE PS 45rpm SINGLE IS ORIGINAL YUGOSLAV PRESSING ISSUED IN 1974 WITH DIFFERENT COVER.

Hollis Champion Long Gone Lonesome Blues / Big Beat $200.00

New York Dolls Trash $200.00

From the Auction:

ARTIST: New York Dolls

TITLE: "Trash" mono/stereo Mercury Records promo with the very rare picture sleeve.

CONDITION:

Vinyl Near Mint.

Sleeve is made of thin paper so there is some light creasing in spots. I removed the record from the sleeve over thirty years ago so it would not get damaged. There is a little scuff on one side. It's really nice and you will have a hard time finding one that's cleaner!

LABEL: Mercury 73414 DJ 378 1973 USA

2009 Picos del Montgo Old Vines Garnacha

Uncorked a 2009 Picos del Montgo Old Vines Garnacha tonite to go with some Chorizo and Date skewers that I'll be grilling up shortly. Nice fruit in this Garnache that I found down at my local World Market. The wine is vinified in the Northeast of Spain from a varietal that is called Grenache in France and Garnacha in Spain. The origins of the grape are Spanish and they do a great job of highlighting the wonderful berry flavors in the grape.

Here's a nice review of the wine - Blue State Carpetbagger's Red State Wine Blog

Here's some background on the region and varietal - Grenache Wiki

The recipe for the skewers and couscous to go with it:

Chorizo & Date Skewers With Orange-Cinnamon Couscous

You can replace the orange juice and zest for the couscous with lemons, if you like. Soak the wood skewers in water while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  • Skewers
  • 12 ounces cooked chorizo sausage links, cut into 3/4-inch chunks (about 24 pieces)
  • 8 dates, halved lengthwise and pitted
  • 1/2 red onion, cut into 1-inch chunks (or 16 pieces)
  • Couscous
  • 1 1/4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup plain instant couscous
  • -- Kosher salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • -- Freshly ground pepper to taste

Instructions: Preheat the grill to medium-high (about 400-450°).

Thread the ingredients onto the water-soaked skewers in the following order: 1 piece chorizo (pierce through the casing, so that the cut side sits flat on the grill), 1 date half, folded in half again to make it shorter, and 1 chunk of red onion. Repeat once, and finish with a third piece of chorizo. Do the same with the remaining 7 skewers and set aside.

To make the couscous, pour the chicken broth into a small saucepan; bring to a boil, add couscous and salt to taste, remove from the heat, cover, and let steam for 5 to 10 minutes.

Squeeze orange juice over the couscous, and fluff with a fork. Gently stir in the orange zest, cinnamon and salt and pepper to taste. Cover and keep warm.

Grill skewers until the onions have softened and chorizo has golden grill marks, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove from heat, and serve 2 skewers per person, with couscous.

Cheers!

2009 Stoneleigh Pinot Noir

Opened up a New Zealand Pinot Noir tonight, as I am putting the finishing touched on the playlist for tomorrow nights all New Zealand episode of Red Red Wine on a Sunday.

This one is from the Marlbourough region of New Zealand and is nice and spicy, with sweet red fruit aromas and the first sip smacks you up like a bite out of a red plum. Hmmm - I'll be going back for more of this one, since my local market has it on sale for $8.99.

This is gonna go really well with a the lamb stew I've got bubbling away on the stove. For the next bottle, I bet some hearty meat pies would go well with this wine.

Cheers!

Spaten Oktoberfestbier Ur-Marzen

It is Oktober, so it's time for some Oktoberfest beers. Yes - no wine this evening, as the Football is on and I'm in the mood for some suds. I have to say that this one is a bit disappointing. First off - a Green Bottle? Come on Spaten - you can do better than that. I wish I would have noticed this before I bought the 6-pack. A bit skunky due to the lack of UV protection, but still more that drinkable. Secondly - a bit of a run of the mill Oktoberfest - try some others would be my recommendation. Regardless - It should go well with the burgers and bratz on the grill this evening. Hey the Monty Python 45's are on the Juke and I'm in a good mood.

From the I Like Chinese 7"

"The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please."

That Eric Idle - ever the politically correct fellow....

Here's a favorable review that I found - Hunter's Beers! (I am all for fair and balanced blogging - Hunter must have got some fresher bottles that I did......)

Cheers
